Chicago, Illinois

Lake Michigan, true to its reputation, went out like a lion. Our last five-hour exposure to it saw swells of five to seven feet and Dream Seeker was rolling fifteen to twenty-five degrees continually. As we approached the breakwaters of the City Marina the seas flattened and the breathtaking Chicago skyline came into view.

Kay and David Vanasco were waiting on the dock to greet us.  I loved it!  What a wonderful greeting! Such a pleasure to see my Chicago relatives!  The City lights and the full moon brightened our reunion. We were in the middle of this beautiful City at night sitting atop Dream Seeker, glass in hand and smiles on our faces.

The next morning Denny and I ventured into the city, walking due west searching for charts. We encountered a lovely tree and flower-laden park with charming high-rise apartments all around it. We passed Mariano’s, a two story market that sold anything you would ever want and exuded aromatic and savory odors from its doorways.

Later in the day we reconvened on Dream Seeker joined by Kay’s friend John and David’s wife Patty and son Andrew. The menu included authentic Chicago pizza. I had a great time.

  2. What a lovely way to view the city! I haven’t told you, you look great! This whole adventure has made you look younger. If you decide to take the Mississippi, let us know. Patty

  4. So glad you were able to meet up with the Vanasco’s. David, Patty and the kids were here in FL a few weeks ago and asked all about your trip. No answer is as good as seeing you and Denny on the boat for yourself!
